Rational design of the inlet configuration of flow systems for enhanced mixing

Abstract High mass transfer rate is a key advantage of microreactors however, under their characteristic laminar flow, it dominated by slow diffusion rather than fast convection. In this paper, we demonstrate how the configuration inlet, i.e. mixers, can promote different flow patterns to greatly enhance mixing efficiency downstream. A systematic evaluation and comparison widely adopted mixers as well advanced designs presented using combination computational fluid dynamics (CFD) backward particle tracking accurately calculate diffusion, in absence numerical (false diffusion). method, convection contributed concentration profile obtained sampling points from cross-sectional plane inlet point, estimated subsequently. conventional T- Y-mixers, shape channel, circular or square, with only latter promoting engulfment flow. cyclone resulting average velocity, independent Reynolds number geometry, dominating design parameter predict efficiency. This work will serve guideline for efficient systems predicted way maximising selectivity product quality.
